Breast implant technology is constantly improving and advancing. One of the newest innovations in silicone implant technology is the 6th generation Motiva® implant. What Are Motiva® Implants?
Motiva® implants are FDA-approved silicone breast implants designed for breast augmentation and reconstruction. They feature a unique gel technology, a proprietary SmoothSilk® surface, and options for both enhanced upper-pole fullness and natural contouring. What 5 Features Set Motiva® Implants Apart?
1. Gel Consistency
Motiva® implants are the 6th generation of silicone gel implants—the “latest and greatest”. The silicone used in these implants is highly cohesive, meaning it falls under the general term “gummy bear implants”. The gel is soft and natural-feeling, specially designed to mimic the movement of breast tissue. The 6th generation gel also minimizes folds and friction, which reduces the risk of implant rippling and capsular contracture.
Motiva® produces its implants in two consistencies; I think of these as “gummy” (Ergonomix® / Ergonomix2®) and “gummier” (Round Plus®).
Ergonomix® / Ergonomix2®
- These implants are the softer of the two options and are designed to adapt to movement and gravity in ways that closely mimic your natural breast tissue.
- If your priority is subtle, natural-looking breast enhancement, Motiva Ergonomix® and Ergonomix2® implants are an excellent choice.
- When you’re standing, the implant settles into a teardrop shape with more fullness in your lower breast. When lying down, it softens and redistributes breast volume much like your natural breast tissue would. This dynamic movement is made possible by the specialized silicone gel, which combines realistic softness with structural integrity for a natural feel and movement.
- As these implants are slightly more prone to rippling in the upper pole of the breast, they may not be suitable for exceptionally thin patients with visible ribs in the upper chest.
Round Plus®
- These implants are the firmer of the two options and are designed to provide more upper pole breast volume than their Ergonomix® / Ergonomix2® counterparts.
- Designed with a highly cohesive silicone gel that helps maintain their shape while minimizing ripping, regardless of body position.
- If a rounder breast shape with enhanced cleavage and upper-pole fullness is your goal, Motiva® Round Plus implants may be the solution. Whether standing, sitting, or lying down, the implant retains consistent volume and projection and minimizes the risk of implant rippling.
The differences between Ergonomix® and Round® implants is best seen in the picture below. Here, two implants of equal volume are being held as they would sit against the chest wall. An Ergonomix® implant is shown on the left, and a Round®
implant is shown on the right. Note the ripples seen on the surface of the Ergonomix® implant (arrows) are much more pronounced than on the Round® implant.
These ripples develop because the silicone gel in this implant is softer and settles more against the bottom part of the implant with gravity, which corresponds to the lower pole of the breast. This results in a softer feel of the implant and an enhancement of the breasts’ natural contours.
The Round® implant maintains more gel in the upper pole, which results in a slightly firmer feel, less implant rippling, and enhancement of the breast’s upper pole and cleavage.
2. Unique Implant Shell Technology
Capsular contracture remains one of the most common complications associated with breast implants. This condition occurs when the scar tissue surrounding the implant constricts, typically causing issues such as firmness, discomfort, or distortion of the breasts.
The casing, or “bag”, that holds the silicone gel is also made of silicone; this is called the “shell”. It is believed that the higher rates of capsular contracture seen in older-generation implants arose from primitive shell technology. Motiva® implants utilize SmoothSilk®/SilkSurface® technology. This proprietary shell surface is technically considered smooth; however, it is actually subtly textured. Research has shown that this implant surface may help reduce your body’s inflammatory response and excessive scar tissue formation after breast augmentation, potentially lowering the likelihood of complications such as capsular contracture. Reduced inflammation may also lower the risk of complications such as implant displacement and fluid accumulation.
3. Integration of the Implant Shell and Silicone Gel
Motiva® implants incorporate several proprietary technologies that are focused on durability and safety. One of these innovations, TrueMonobloc+®, creates a strong bond between the implant shell and the silicone gel that it contains, enhancing overall structural integrity. This design helps improve resistance to wear while allowing the implant to be inserted through smaller incisions, resulting in more discreet scarring.
4. BluSeal+® Technology
BluSeal+® is a specialized barrier layer integrated into the implant shell. This protective layer helps limit silicone migration in the unlikely event of a leak or rupture. Its subtle blue tint also provides surgeons with visual confirmation that the implant barrier remains intact prior to placement, adding an extra level of quality assurance to your breast augmentation surgery.
