Have you noticed that your breasts seem to be slowly migrating downward? Maybe you’ve lost weight or have gone through pregnancy and breastfeeding. Maybe the natural aging process and gravity are starting to change the way your body looks. Or maybe you have breast implants which no longer seem centered under your breasts? Whatever the reason you may be considering a breast lift, before making your final decision, you likely want to know exactly how much this cosmetic procedure will cost so you can plan accordingly.

In this blog, we’ll break down the average cost of breast lift surgery to let you know what is included and what to expect financially speaking to restore your silhouette and your confidence.

Overall Cost Range for a Breast Lift ($5,600–$17,600)

As you can see, the overall range for a breast lift (mastopexy) varies significantly. Several factors influence these numbers, which we’ll explore further below. However, it’s important to note that each surgeon presents breast lift pricing differently. Some may include items such as recovery garments, anesthesia fees, or facility fees in their price, while others may list them separately.

When you visit a plastic surgeon for your initial breast lift consultation, they will provide a cost estimate based on your specific needs and what you discussed during your appointment. It is critical that you receive a specific cost breakdown from your surgeon so you understand where the different fees are coming from. Beware of any practice that does not provide this breakdown!

Breakdown of Breast Lift Costs

Consultation Fee ($50–$350)

When you’re looking for the right plastic surgeon to perform your breast lift, it is recommended that you visit more than one to see who you “click” with, who makes you feel most comfortable, and who has the best credentials, reputation, and experience. When deciding how many surgeons to visit, keep in mind that while some surgeons offer free consultations, many charge a non-refundable consultation fee. However, surgeons will often apply your consultation fee toward your breast lift if you schedule your surgery with them.

Surgeon’s Fee ($2,600–$11,000)

One of the most significant costs associated with breast lift surgery is the surgeon’s fee. This cost is based on several factors, including:

  • Whether the surgeon is board certified
  • How long they’ve been practicing
  • Their reputation and proven results
  • Whether they have specialized expertise in breast surgery
  • The complexity of your particular surgery (not all breast lifts are the same!)

While it’s natural to want to be financially savvy, choosing the right surgeon is not where you want to cut corners. A highly skilled and experienced board-certified plastic surgeon is crucial when it comes to your safety during surgery and recovery, as well as the quality of your results.

Anesthesia Fees ($1,200–$1,800)

Breast lift surgery is performed either under general anesthesia or deep sedation, which requires you to be monitored by a board-certified anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist throughout the procedure. Anesthesia fees are charged based on their experience and training, as well as the length of your surgery.

Facility/Operating Room Fee ($1,500–$3,100)

Your breast lift surgery will most likely take place in a fully accredited outpatient surgery center. The fees for a private surgery center are, in general, significantly cheaper than having your surgery performed in a large hospital-based setting. Since surgery centers are specially tailored to elective outpatient procedures for healthy patients, they often have lower infection risks compared to large hospitals.

Implantable Materials

Mesh ($750-$3500)

Depending on the amount of breast tissue that is being re-suspended and the extent of breast sagging (known as ptosis), your surgeon may recommend the use of a dissolvable mesh. This mesh serves as an “internal bra” to suspend the breast tissue and give a much longer-lasting result to the breast lift. Few surgeons are adequately trained in the use of mesh in breast surgery, so do your research carefully! As mesh is often used in breast reconstruction, surgeons with a strong background in breast reconstructive surgery are the best trained to use mesh in aesthetic breast surgery.

Breast Implants ($1600–$2,000)

You may decide that you’d like to add breast augmentation with implants to your breast lift. If so, the cost of implants will raise the price of your procedure. Implant costs can be affected by the type of implant you choose (saline or silicone), the shape (round or anatomical), and whether you elect to enhance your breast augmentation with fat transfer.

Geographic Location Range (± $2,000–$7,000)

Where your breast lift surgeon is located also affects the cost of your procedure. Plastic surgery practices near large metropolitan areas typically charge more than practices in more rural areas, due to factors like overhead and demand.

Additional Cosmetic Procedures ($3,000–$15,000)

Many women decide to combine their breast lift with other body contouring procedures. Common choices include a tummy tuck, liposuction, and a Mommy Makeover, which can provide more comprehensive rejuvenation. The advantage of combining procedures is that, while it will cost more up front, you often save money in the long run by avoiding the costs of two separate surgeries.

Post-operative Expenses ($50–$300)

After your breast lift, you will need to wear a supportive surgical bra as you heal. Many surgeons will provide you with a post-operative bra, though it is a good idea to purchase one of your own after surgery. Other post-operative expenses may include prescription medications, incision care supplies, and scar care products.
